Week 11- Energy Medicine and Energy Fields

Acupuncture as effective energy medicine-- This question is very hard for me to answer because i the term "energy medicine" is so vague. There are probably as many definitions of "energy medicine" as there are people in the world. Even just the term "energy" can be debated about endlessly let alone the debates that arise when you tack on the word "medicine" to it. So how does one begin to address this question without writing a book (that in the end would solve little on the matter)? Well, i typed "definition of energy" into google, than randomly clicked a link. This is what i got randomly, which is as good as a choice as any, energy is a scalar physical quantity that describes the amount of work that can be performed by a force. So if i start there i would say Acupuncture is an effective form of "EM". But on second thought, acupuncture really isn't quantitative, it is more qualitative and although energy does possess qualitative properties it is considered a quantitative substance to the scientist. hmmmm, guess i need to think more about this before i finish defining energy medicine for the human race...lol

What conclusions can you draw from Kirlian photography? Kirliam photography documents some form of substance that is emitted and changes in conjunction with ones past present and future. what that something is is hard to say. But is sure is amazing to see a piece of technology that merges the scientific mind with the ethereal.

Human intent as it affects health--All i have to say here from a western perspective is to look at cancer studies that are done on intent. Its pretty obvious that intent is a factor. or maybe you can even look to speech patterns for an example. i can say the words "come on" with different intent and it will change what those words mean. one way is saying "come with me" the other is saying "i don't believe you. same words, different intent, way different meaning. My intent alters the outcome of the phrase through my vocal tone. another example; i can shake your hand to say hello or i can hold acu-points on your hand to induce qi flow. same basic action different outcome. The points on the body are just "ways in". What you do once you get in has much to do with intent.

Week Ten Life and Living Systems

I know I'm a "living system" because...--Well this is a simple question to answer. (lol) My definition of a living system is anything that is still undergoing transformation and change. And with that said i would conclude that i am a living system. I change all the time. I change my mind, my focus, my opinions, my underwear and the channel. So i guess that means I'm a "living system", right? And since my changes are more rapid than say something like a rock, does that mean i am more of a "living system" than it? A rock is changing. Its just a slow process but soon it will be eroded away. So the question arises, is the rate of change equal to the amount of life in a "living system"? If so does that mean that boiling water is more alive than people and people more alive than rocks? hmmmmm, i wonder...

Biophysics and Oriental Medicine-- I don't always think that the answers between a biophysicist and an OMD are always so different. But i do think that the vocabulary used and the reasoning behind their methods tend to part ways. I wish i could say that i thought one was more "clear" and "true" than the other but maybe that idea roots from a personal "backlash". One thing i can be certain of is that biophysics is a young field and OM is a much older and mature field. Biophysics being similar to a child; Strong, passionate, rambuntious, and able to get the job done despite possible inefficiency of process. Where as OM might be seen as wise, collected, thought out, experienced, and calm...

Week 9- Synthesis

My E-Prime Day--I love it. My E-Prime day is spontaneous due to its tendency toward uncertainty and perspective. At times it can seem a little insecure because of probability but when grounded this can be fun. E-Prime alleviates chance for argument due to its versatility with opposing perspectives.

Can I synthesize East and West?--No we should never merge the two. In fact we should build east and west philosophical armies and have wars where we aim to destroy each other in a colossal war. The east will have the powers of mystical ghosts, energy weapons, lethal needle attacks, health food, Fu Zi ware fare, karma, and their campaign slogan will be " as above so below, whats meant to happen will be". The West will wield weapons of chemical nature, magnifying glasses, global warming, long drawn out thesis papers, and their war propaganda slogan will be "We want the FACTS"...

Week 8 Classical Physics

Newton's Three Laws And Me-

1)sitting in my chair, staring at the computer screen, it seems hard to make a move and start this blog. But now that i have started typing it seems to take some bit of energy to stop.

2) The weight of my thoughts plus the speed at which i wish to deliver them is equal to the force at which i strike the keyboard? hmmmmm

3) my action is here on this page in the form of these words. Lets see if Newton's law holds true with ideas as it does with objects. Will there be a reaction in the form of a response?

lol

Our "Energy Efficient" Culture- At what point does something become efficient? What must the ratio be between useful output to waste byproducts for a process to be classified as efficient? Does this satisfaction of "efficiency" change as culture changes? Has what was once considered to be useful and efficient changed? Was civilization nieve not to think that there should be systems that have better efficiency ? Or is the understanding of efficiency and mastery of the external world nothing more than another developmentery process of civilization? Is there guilt involved? Is any of it "natural"?...

Descartes has a lot to answer for!- "The mind can only know that which it has itself produced and retains in some sense within itself" This is a very interesting statement. In order to feel that this statement falls short of universal understanding one must assume that the "mind" is something that isn't part of the whole; that the "mind" has edges or boundaries that make it a specified object with distinct location; that the mind is only "here" and never "there". Well, i guess if you believe that than that statement can seem a bit trapping...But on the other hand, if you believe that the mind is vast and limitless than Descartes statement seems much larger, and that by going back into the "mind" one might find all the answers he/she is seeking...

Week 7 Chaos Thepry

"Ordered Chaos"- does it sound familiar?...I don't think there is a kid on this earth that doesn't have a full working relationship with the concept of "Ordered Chaos". Weather it is the floor of their room, or the closet, or their pile of toys, I think it is safe to say that they are completely comfortable with that perceived mess. At the same time i think it is safe to say that the parent of that same child is not ok with the pile of cloths and considers it an unacceptable mess. So can we than propose that chaos isn't about the amount of unordered items in a given space but maybe the amount of comfortability the observer has with this perceived mess?...

Fractals as patterns of complex systems... Fractals are a great way for us to begin to wrap our head around complex systems. Maybe the idea of a fractal is beneficial because of its ability to keep our perception open and large when trying to pick apart a system that has multiple layers of infinite complexity. Fractals help us to understand the big picture...

Consciousness out of chaos?...I recently watched a video on Chaos Theory where they showed experiments of chemical reactions taking place in a liquid and as time progressed the reactions made visual patterns that became more and more chaotic. But than at some point the chaos suddenly began to produce beautiful ordered patterns. If you continued to watch the reaction they than went from ordered patterns back to a chaotic state. This process continued to cycle. So i began to wonder, Is it possible that the reactions are continually the same, not necessarily ordered or chaotic, but our perception of them shifts from conscious understanding to confusion?

Week 6 - Vibrations

Are all vibrations good?...Maybe the word "good" isn't fiting in this context. I don't know if vibrations can be anthropomorphosized to have a good or bad nature. It might be more beneficial to think of vibrations as a force that can alter something else. This alteration can have a positive or negative effect. That is to to say, that all types of alteration can influence a situation to be more or less fluent or resistant...

Resonance in my world... There are many examples of resonance in my world that can be said to exist on the emotional, physical, internal, external, micro, macro cosmic levels. If asked what is a resonance that i have experienced frequently and that i seem to have a working relationship with, I would have to say the resonance i experience when interacting with my clients is a very common one for me. When i allow myself to resonate with a client i feel that the work i do becomes more beneficial for them. If i put up resistance to a client due to the idea that i don't agree with the attitudes and ways they vibrate, than there really isn't anything i can do that will help them. my approach is to feel their vibration, match them (resonate with their vibration), than begin to bring that vibration slowly up to one that is healthier for them...

Connections i can make between energy and Qi...Qi is not energy, but energy is Qi. Energy is a specific measurement of certain substantial properties. Qi is everything. There isn't anything in the manifest world that isn't Qi. With that said, i feel that in order to even start to understand what Qi is we must first come to the humble conclusion that no one really knows what it is and to try to describe it in terms on a mathematical paradigm is pointless because you are bringing it out of the totality that it encompasses and forcing "rules" upon it that immediately negate the function of the concept of Qi. So, it can be said the energy is a part of Qi, but Qi is NOT energy. The only thing else one can truly say about Qi is "I don't know"; which is a very freeing statement...

Week 5 Symetery and Sacred Geometry

My (a)symmetrical world...Like everything else in philosophy i don't think that the description of my work being symmetrical or asymmetrical is so black and white. Some things appear one way and other things appear another way. And to make matters even more complicated there a asymmetries within symmetries and symmetries within asymmetries. This complete structuring makes up my inner and outside world. Depending on point of view things may change from one concept of symmetry to another. It also relates to how comfortable i am feeling and daring. When unsure and scared in spirit i can lean on the symmetries to bring me home, when strong and exploitative i can swim through the view point of asymmetries. whats needed when needed is always there for me. And ultimately that idea is securing and keeps life magical...

Just what does the CP violation really mean?...i think that it reiterates what i was saying above, "that nothing is so black and white". I think that science will eventually find inconsistencies in all their "laws" over time. The closer you look, the longer time you spend with one law you will find holes within the theory. And it will continue on and on as new "laws" are postulated. This can possible be seen as a refinement of knowledge and understanding or the universe, but in the end the only real law that we can be certain of is that "we don't know exactly what is happening". This can be frustrating for most and freeing for others...

Are there connections between sacred geometry and physics...Simply put, yes. One might argue that sacred geometry IS physics from a different time period and point of view. This subdivision of the sciences and art is a modern concept of compartmentalization. In ancient the scientists were the artists, the doctors, the spiritual advisers, the astrologers, the seers and so on. really they are all similar processes of understanding and sharing knowledge to an audience. The audiences might be different, and the vehicles for transmission might be different but the knowledge all comes from the same source...

Week 4 - Energy, Matter and the Four Forces

How has E=MC2 affected you?-- Well from a philosophical point of view how hasn't it? Meaning, without the actual occurrence of energy= mass times the speed of light squared I wouldn't be here in the physical manifestation i know myself to be. But, as far as the written "equation", I guess it hasn't begun to affect me prior to last Thursday's class. Just being aware of the vast energetic capacity that is held up in matter with the potential of creating whole universes , well that idea is just starting to sink in...

How would you compare the "Four Forces"-- The four forces are Gravitational Force, Electromagnetic Force, Weak Nuclear Force and Strong Nuclear Force. The weakest of them all is gravity which is interesting because that is the one that we all know well and can experience on a daily basis. the other three get progressively stronger leading to the strongest being the Strong Nuclear Force. These other forces are much stronger than Gravity and although we interact with them just by being conscious and alive they see to be so integrated with our existence that we seem to not notice, or at lest take them for granted. An interesting thing to point out is that the only one with mass is the Weak Force. The others appear mass-less. Not sure what to make of that...

What is the Function of Gravity--Gravity is possibly just one more component in the mystery that is Human life as we know it. The stars and the sky (yang) above, the earth and ground (yin) below, and the tension between the two antagonized by gravity being the component that allows a human being to exist. The connection between above and below, yin and yang, sky and earth is the pushing and pulling that creates a human being oscillating between the polar forces. And gravity making it all possible. Gravity, although the weakest of all the forces, it's subtle influence on life as we know it is massive...

Week Three-Synchronicity

Connectivity- I think i just experienced a form of "unproductive" connectivity. I just logged on to post to this blog and before i could even type the first word i received a text from a friend asking me if i wanted to go out. Maybe that doesn't sound so profound but it has happened for the past three blog entries! not sure that's a positive effect but it sure shows some sort of connection, does it not?

Synchronicity- without going into too many specifies here i seem to experience synchronistic occurrences often. i usually refer to my friends that i have on the east coast. just because they are so far away and far removed from my daily activities. on top of that, there is also a three hour time difference between us. But over and over again, at least once a week, there are synchronistic things that happen. I think that due to the convenience of technology, ironically enough, these instances can be realized more readily. What i am referring to here is texting. there are many times when something will happen that reminds me of a friend, or an event and i send off a text to a friend. and wouldn't you believe that they often experience something similar at the same time. if it wasn't for the simplicity of texting maybe those occurrences would go unnoticed. I wouldn't take the time out of my daily activities just to call a friend ever time a thought or emotion relating to them pops into my world, but sending a text is quick and easy. and through this simple form of communication i can see synchronistic phenomena...does that sound like a Verizon add or what? lol

Week Two- Quantum Mechanics

Reflections on Uncertainty.... I wonder why when people of our time hear of things being uncertain they feel uncomfortable. What is it about who we are as a culture, that things of uncertain nature frighten us? why must me understand "everything"? why does "understanding or "putting things is boxes and straight lines" make us feel comfortable? Our streets, our houses, and our schedules are all arranged in neat linear fashion to make us feel secure. Is this possibly a gross projection of our vast misunderstanding of nature? shouldn't ideas such as Uncertainty make us feel alive? make us feel like a part of the unknown? the mysterious? Maybe civilization, through a long drawn out path of mathematics, is finally bto come full circle through the understanding of Quantum Physics. Did we have to go so far in the rationalists direction in order to come back to what ancient civilizations knew? this i wonder...

Causality....Well i guess its easy to say that of coarse cause and effect can be experienced on a daily basis. without causality its hard to imagine that anyone could get anything done in life. for instance, you have a goal and to make that goal come to pass you go through a specific series of tasks that you assume will bring you the desired results. but as i type that sentence i immediately realize that things don't always turn out as you planned. so right there in that example we can see how causality is true and false....

Is The Universe Weird...In one word, YES. i guess first thing we have to do in seriously asking that question is to define what the word weird means. Here are two definitions i found online, they are: 1) of relating to, or suggesting of the preternatural or supernatural. 2) of a strikingly odd or strange character. So i stand Strong on my first idea that the universe is weird. Maybe if we were able to see things for how they are and not for how we expect them to be we would see the universe as natural and normal. but until we all forget what we have been taught for the past few hundred years I'm sure we can all agree the universe is WEIRD...

Week One

the main reason that i am attracted to Chinese Medicine is because i feel it is a complete system which explains the movements through the cycles of what we call life. And, although there is a very analytical side to TCM it stays balanced by explaining its paradigm through poetic means. To me Chinese Medicine is a bridge between the known and the unknown, the large and the small, the healthy and the ill, the left and the right portions of the brain, and of coarse the yin and the yang. Furthermore, the everlasting strength and persistence that Chinese medicine shows in the face of many sceptics and many many years of cultural, physical, "scientific" and political changes is something that is quite admirable...

Physics to me in its academic form is something that is way over my head. I enjoy math and numbers but my lack of "keeping up" with mathematical skills since leaving high school keeps the inner workings (the equations) farm from my grip of understanding. but with that said, the conceptual side of Physics is something that i am readily attracted to. There are many interesting YouTube videos out there on quantum physics that i have been watching for a few years now. They range from highly scientific and mathematical to way too "new agey". But somewhere in the middle of these extremes is a great amount of thought provoking videos. I invite anyone who is curious about physics to check out what is floating around on YouTube. i guarantee a few hours of your life will disappear once you open that can of worms. (talk about bending time. lol)...

I think it is a common phenomena that everyone experiences some perception of time speeding up and slowing down. the specifics of the stories aren't very important to list but the fact that all people despite age, gender, location have spoke of time as something that isn't constant. I think that this notion reveals to us that no matter how hard we try to make static "laws" and try to organize reality into many concise boxes (which may or may not help us make sense of the universe) there will always exist the non-linear influence of personal experience that will color and change what is perceived as reality. Maybe it would benefit some people to give up the boxes and straight lines and just fall in trust with life being an ever changing phenomena...
